Background of the Study

Stroke is a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, with significant impacts on the physical, emotional, and social well-being of affected individuals. Recovery from a stroke is a complex process that involves medical treatment, rehabilitation, and ongoing support. Family support has been identified as a critical factor in the recovery process, influencing both the psychological and physical aspects of rehabilitation. In many cases, family members serve as caregivers, providing emotional, financial, and physical assistance to stroke patients (Bennett & Muntaner, 2024).

In Jigawa State, where healthcare facilities are limited and access to specialized care may be a challenge, the role of family support becomes even more significant. Family members often take on the role of primary caregivers for stroke patients, assisting with mobility, medication adherence, and emotional support. However, the influence of family support on recovery outcomes in stroke patients has not been extensively studied in the region. This study aims to evaluate the impact of family support on the recovery of stroke patients in Jigawa State.

Statement of the Problem

Stroke patients in Jigawa State often face challenges in their recovery due to limited access to specialized care and rehabilitation services. Family support plays a crucial role in facilitating the recovery process; however, the extent to which family involvement impacts stroke recovery outcomes remains underexplored. Understanding how family support influences recovery can help healthcare providers implement interventions that engage families in the rehabilitation process and improve patient outcomes.

Objectives of the Study

1. To assess the level of family support received by stroke patients in Jigawa State.

2. To evaluate the influence of family support on the physical and psychological recovery of stroke patients in Jigawa State.

3. To recommend strategies to strengthen family involvement in the recovery of stroke patients in Jigawa State.

Research Questions

1. What is the level of family support received by stroke patients in Jigawa State?

2. How does family support influence the physical recovery of stroke patients in Jigawa State?

3. What role does family support play in the psychological recovery of stroke patients in Jigawa State?

Research Hypotheses

1. Family support significantly improves the physical recovery of stroke patients in Jigawa State.

2. Family support plays a crucial role in the psychological recovery of stroke patients in Jigawa State.

3. The level of family support is positively correlated with the recovery outcomes of stroke patients in Jigawa State.
